Plantable now
Still plantable in May
May is the big moving-out month, when the heat-loving plants can finally go into the bed. After the mid-May frosts the danger is over, and that's when I plant out tomatoes, courgettes, cucumbers and beans with real anticipation.

Plan a bedCommon questions
- When can I plant out tomatoes and courgettes?
- After the mid-May frosts, around the 15th, because by then the risk of late frost is largely gone. I'd rather wait a few days too long than lose a whole young plant to the cold.
- Is it too late to sow in May?
- Not at all, in May you can sow beans, squash, sweetcorn and plenty of salads directly. The warm soil gets everything germinating really quickly now.
