Botanical family
Solanaceae
5 plants
The nightshade family. Tomato, pepper, aubergine, potato โ all heavy feeders, all heat-lovers. Beware of late blight: don't plant tomatoes in ground beds in the same spot two years in a row. In raised beds it's less of an issue.
Crop rotation
After nightshade plants (tomato, pepper, aubergine) NEVER plant Solanaceae in the same slot again โ late-blight spores persist for years. Good follow-up: legumes (bean) next year, then brassicas or root crops. 3-year break for the same family.
Nutrient distribution
How many plants in this family are how hungry for nutrients. Raised-bed soil exhausts quickly after heavy feeders โ follow with nitrogen-fixers.
